How Google changed the world of
When - just after the turn of the millennium - we still typed our search terms in Ilse, it was very simple: websites were filled with search terms and the one that did that most successfully was at the top of the search engine. So: texts in the colour of the background, websites change completely as soon as you saw that Ilse's indexing robot visited them, and the like. It was everyday practice and we also happily participated.

And then Google came...
Google changed everything related to search engine optimization (SEO). And with Google PageRank. In short: a determination of how important a website is based on websites that place a link to it. However, it goes beyond that. It is not only about numbers of links, but PageRank also looks at (1) the number of links that point to the page with your link and (2) the number of links that are on the page. So: the more links to the page that contains your link and the fewer links to other websites, the more importance Google attaches to a link to your website.
And what about that Google Penguin?
Google regularly opens part of the zoo, including the penguin enclosure in April 2012. Then there was the Google Penguin update. Because of the PageRank principle, all kinds of organizations bought or placed links on dozens of their own websites in the most abhorrent ways. And Google disagreed. That went through. In April 2012, many companies saw their positions in the search results fall sharply. Once again it became clear: Google Page Rank is a smart formula with many factors that determine whether you are relevant.
So, PageRank is still current?
There are persistent rumours that PageRank is no longer current. The reason: until 2012, anyone on any website could still view the Google PageRank with the Google Toolbar. That was simply a green bar with a scale from 0 to 10. Not long after that, Google stopped updating and this resource became worthless. Google's reason: Search engine optimization (SEO) increasingly looked at PageRank, instead of valuable links that really contribute. And that high PageRank was also regularly pursued more than fine content that matched the search intent. But PageRank and search engine optimization (SEO) today still belong together. And the way of thinking is more current than ever. Google has confirmed this itself regularly and the PageRank patent is still being updated.
In short
The importance of Google PageRank in search engine optimization is confirmed every day in the campaigns we run. We always deliver perfect websites together with customers and web developers, but only as the links to that website improve and confirm that the website is indeed important, do you see the large search terms increase.
